Severe storms in the Philadelphia area on Wednesday could cause wind damage, heavy rain and large hail

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Wednesday will be warm and very humid, with more storms expected in the Philadelphia area by evening. Storms are likely to be stronger as a cold front finally moves through the area.

Due to the heat and humidity, an extreme heat warning is in effect until Wednesday morning. After that, an extreme heat warning is in effect until Wednesday evening.

For this reason, we have issued the NEXT Weather Alert Day for Wednesday. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has the area at a “slight risk” for severe weather or a 2 out of 5 on the risk scale. This means that scattered extreme storms are possible. We can expect another evening similar to Tuesday evening with widespread wind damage, large hail, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.

The good news? After the front passes, temperatures will drop back to normal seasonal temperatures on Thursday and beyond with only a few summer storms. We can expect temperatures in the upper 80s and more pleasant humidity levels through the weekend.
