Sixers ban Howard Eskin from training facility after sports radio host’s unwanted advance at Phillies game

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Sixers have joined the Phillies in banning Howard Eskin from their facilities after the longtime Philadelphia sports commentator and radio personality reportedly had a unwanted advances toward an Aramark employee at Citizens Bank Park.

A 76ers spokesman said Wednesday that the team will not allow Eskin into its training complex in Camden, New Jersey, “until further notice” and that the Wells Fargo Center has requested that Eskin not be allowed to participate in team activities for the foreseeable future.

The Sixers are a tenant of the Wells Fargo Center, with their lease expiring in 2031. The team hopes build a new arena in the Market East neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Aramark said Tuesday night that it had learned that one of its employees had been the victim of an unwanted advance by Eskin at the ballpark. The company said it immediately launched an investigation, confirmed the allegations and worked with Audacy, the parent company of 94WIP, and the Phillies to protect the employee.

Audacy said in a statement that it was aware of “an unwanted kiss from Howard Eskin to an Aramark employee at Citizens Bank Park.”

“The safety of our employees is our top priority,” Aramark said in a statement. “When we learned that an Aramark employee had been the victim of unwanted advances from an Audacy employee, we immediately launched an investigation, which confirmed the allegations.”

Eskin did not respond to a telephone call from CBS News Philadelphia.

Audacy said Eskin will still be on TV during WIP, but not this weekend due to an event unrelated to the incident at Citizens Bank Park.

Eskin, 73, has been a sports media personality in Philadelphia for decades. In 1986, he helped launch WIP’s first-ever sports talk show and has aired nearly 7,000 shows on the station.

Eskin also worked several times at Philadelphia television stations, including two stints at KYW-TV, now CBS News Philadelphia, in 1982 and 1992. Eskin is currently a contributor to the Eagles coverage on FOX29 and also reports for the Eagles on WIP.

Eskin presents a sports talk show on the radio on WIP on Saturday mornings.

Eskin’s son, Spike Eskin, returned to the station earlier this year on WIP’s afternoon shift after serving as program director at WFAN-FM in New York.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Spike Eskin wrote on Wednesday: “I do my best to be a good person. Whether you like me (some do) or don’t like me (some do), I hope and expect that it’s based on what I do and say, and how I behave. See you on the radio today and on the podcast late tonight. Appreciate the support, as always.”
