A brief chase with a stolen vehicle suspect came to a sudden end in San Pedro when the driver stopped the car and barricaded it inside, leading to an hours-long standoff with police.
The chase ended around 2:50 p.m., but ended near Gaffey Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, when the suspect stopped behind a business parking lot that turned out to be a dead end.
The driver could be seen sitting in the car, a Honda sedan, surrounded by dozens of Los Angeles Police Department units with SkyCal overhead.
Officers used less-than-lethal ammunition to get the suspect out of the car, shooting several bean bags through the rear window of the car.
A SWAT team was called to the scene to assist.
Just before 6:30 p.m., the suspect surrendered after officers placed a gas cylinder in the back of the car.
He was arrested without further incident.
