A Texas mother was fatally shot at her 6-year-old child’s birthday party, Houston police said.

Authorities say Jalen Whitlock, 25, was shot near the front door of her Locksley Road home in Houston on Thursday, Sept. 12, around 8:35 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.

Jalin J. Foreman, 27, surrendered to Houston on Monday, Sept. 16, and was booked into the Harris County Jail. He is charged with murder, according to the complaint.

A witness told police that during the party, Foreman drove up to the house, shot at least five times and began yelling, “I’m not afraid of you,” “I know where you live” and “Come at me,” according to the complaint.

Foreman then allegedly drove away, but returned a short time later and shouted, “We’re going to end this now,” the complaint said.

Whitlock’s boyfriend told police that Foreman, the father of her two children, “tried to come to the house to give his daughter a birthday present,” but Whitlock told him, “He can’t come to the house,” the complaint said.
