What happens during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games?

There was a closing ceremony at the 1896 Summer Olympics, the first modern Olympics, but it “only vaguely resembled today’s ceremonies,” according to the Olympics.

There are several elements that are considered important parts of the Olympic Closing Ceremony. First, the head of state of the host country enters, accompanied by the president of the International Olympic Committee. Then, the national anthem of the host country is played or sung while the flag of the host country is raised.

Other traditional elements include a flag parade, a parade of athletes and the handover of the Olympic flag to a representative of the city that will host the Olympic Games in four years’ time: in this case, Los Angeles.

During the closing ceremony, some final medals are also awarded. At the end, the Olympic flame is extinguished.

The closing ceremony is called “Records”. Thomas Jolly, who was artistic director of the sometimes controversial opening ceremonywill also be artistic director for the closing ceremony.

“At the Stade de France, where the biggest stars of athletics and rugby sevens will compete, the moment will be solemn and emotional, but it will also be a time to celebrate,” said Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024. “Finally, the pressure will be off and everyone will be able to fully enjoy the absolutely exceptional show that is being planned under the leadership of Thomas Jolly, with the help of all the teams working on the four ceremonies of Paris 2024. Innovative, surprising and brilliant, these ceremonies already promise to be very powerful, just like “Records”, which has everything it takes to leave its mark on the history of Closing Ceremonies”

Who will perform at the closing ceremony in Paris?

Although the names of the artists have not yet been announced, organizers said earlier that the Stade de France would be transformed into a giant concert hall. There will be more than 100 artists, acrobats, dancers and circus performers.

According to the organizers, “world-famous singers will complete the picture”, with part of the show taking place in the air.

“We want to celebrate, but consciously. This moment of celebration will also be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Olympic Games in our society,” Jolly said earlier. “So I designed a show in which the Olympic Games disappear again, and someone comes along and sets them up. It’s a very visual, very choreographic, very acrobatic show with an operatic dimension to give a great visual fresco and say goodbye to athletes from all over the world.”

Who will carry the American flag at the 2024 closing ceremonies?
