The weather will be warmer from this weekend

Storm chances will continue into the weekend, especially for northeastern New Mexico. Much warmer weather is on the way from this weekend.

It was a more humid start to the day than we were used to in much of New Mexico. Southwesterly winds have pushed that moister air back toward eastern New Mexico. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms have developed across the northern mountains, central New Mexico and into the Sacramento Mountains. These showers and storms will dissipate tonight, but spotty showers and thunderstorms are possible in northeastern New Mexico tonight.

Higher temperatures will return across the country on Thursday afternoon. Once again, some spotty showers are possible in northern New Mexico, with the best chance in the northeastern part of the state. Another backdoor front, fueled by Thursday afternoon’s thunderstorms, will move westward across the state through Friday morning, again increasing humidity. This will be pushed east again in the afternoon with a southwest wind. A few afternoon storms are possible again, especially in northeastern New Mexico. Saturday will be the last day with rain chances, but more of eastern New Mexico should actually see a chance for a few isolated storms.

Drier air returns to all of New Mexico on Sunday. This will also continue a warming trend starting Saturday. A strong area of high pressure will move across the state next week, bringing the hottest weather yet this year, with many reaching the 90s and 100s next Wednesday.
