Locations across Europe and even Japan have been named as the best value places to fly to as departure prices in the UK fall.

Destinations around the world have seen their flight prices fall this year due to a combination of factors, such as airlines launching new routes, opening these destinations for the first time and/or a higher frequency of flights from budget airlines.

The highest value destinations have been calculated based on the percentage drop in price for return economy class flights booked from the UK between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2024 for travel during 2024 and compared to the same period in 2023

Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina has seen a 45 percent drop in airfares from Britain, which will have the biggest drop in airfares from any other destination in 2025, according to Skyscanner’s Travel Trends Report.

This is partly thanks to new routes launched from London Stansted to Sarajevo, allowing visitors to experience the capital’s Ottoman-era Old Town, world-class café culture and centuries-old Baščaršija Bazaar.

Okinawa in Japan has also seen a 39 percent drop in flight prices, giving British travelers the chance to visit the southern Japanese prefecture and explore its rich landscape of natural beauty, castle ruins and heritage sites, away from the metropolitan hustle and bustle of the country. largest cities.

In third place is Albania’s capital Tirana, with a 36 percent drop in prices, while new flight routes are available for British tourists from Birmingham and Bristol.

Dubbed the next big Mediterranean holiday destination, Albania has been attracting more and more visitors to its sandy beach hotspots in recent years, while neighboring Croatia and Greece are traditionally more popular.

Tirana is known for its vibrant nightlife, architectural sights such as the Pyramid of Tirana and exceptional Albanian food culture, but it is also a short distance from the Ionian Riviera coastline, which is dotted with charming villages and budget hotels.

While Skyscanner says that while many Britons continue to prioritize traveling abroad, the impact of the rising cost of living in Britain means budgeting remains a key factor when choosing a travel destination.

The cost of flights and how much hotels will cost a traveler per night are the top determining factors when choosing a holiday destination for almost half (47 percent) of the 20,000 Skyscanner surveys worldwide.

Price isn’t the only factor, as food (54 percent), natural scenery (49 percent) and culture (44 percent) will also influence where a traveler flies.

Naomi Hahn, vice president of strategy at Skyscanner, said: “Skype’s Travel Trends report shows that 2025 will be the year of collective travel experiences. More than ever, travelers are increasingly seeking travel experiences that foster community and collective discovery.

“We see a range of experiences and interests, ranging from sports to astrology, as well as arts and culture, bringing people together for a shared adventure.

“However, the cost of living remains a top priority, and our money-saving tools continue to grow in popularity. Our ‘Everywhere’ search, which shows prices from lowest to highest, from airports to global destinations, continues to be one of the top search destinations for travelers worldwide this year.”
