Three injured in crash near Goshen; two arrests made

Dec. 1 – All three people involved in a crash outside Goshen on Saturday were hospitalized and two were arrested following the incident near Brinkley RV.

Elkhart County deputies say Saturday at 1:52 p.m., Sarah Perault, 38, of Southgate, Michigan, was stopped on the shoulder of CR 36 east of Brinkley Way West, in a 2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris.

Ronald Wing, 44, of Elkhart, was driving west on CR 36 in a 1999 Lincoln Continental and police said he was driving at an unsafe speed and failed to stop or pass Perault’s vehicle and instead rear-ended him.

Perault, Wing and Wing’s passenger were all transported to Goshen Hospital for injuries. Perault had chest, neck and back pain; Wing had knee pain and his passenger Richard Monschein, 42, of Elkhart, had facial abrasions and a broken back.

Wing and Monschein were also later booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

Wing was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle. Monschein was arrested on charges of possession of paraphernalia and a warrant for his arrest.

Crash hospitalized one driver

A 77-year-old Elkhart man was hospitalized after an accident Friday evening.

Elkhart County deputies reported that James Farr, 77, of Elkhart, was driving north on CR 17 near CR 10 in a 2002 Toyota Avalon at 5:47 p.m.

Troy Harper, 37, of Elkhart, was attempting to turn left from CR 17 onto CR 10 in a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica when he was struck from behind by Farr, according to the police report.

Farr was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for stomach pain.

ARRESTS

– A 49-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 1:08 a.m. Thursday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated following a traffic stop near the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Indiana Avenue.

– A 34-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 3:08 a.m. Sunday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lincolnway East and Monroe Street.

– A 22-year-old Goshen man was arrested by Goshen police Saturday at 5:06 p.m. in the 2600 block of Alpine Fir Lane in Goshen on a charge of battery in the presence of a minor. He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

RESIDENTIAL ENTRANCE

A 24-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 12:53 a.m. Saturday that someone she knew entered her home without her permission in the 400 block of James Place.

CRIMINAL ILLEGAL

A 34-year-old woman reported to Goshen police Saturday at 10:47 p.m. that her window was broken in the 200 block of Silverwood Lane.

FRAUD

A 54-year-old man reported cryptocurrency fraud to Goshen police on Friday at 3:09 p.m.

OFFICIAL REPORT

A 53-year-old man reported to Goshen police about problems at a Goshen healthcare facility at 9:14 p.m. Friday.
