Tim Walz accuses Trump of ‘being against America’

Tim Walz has criticized the pessimism at the heart of the Republican presidential campaign, accusing former President Donald Trump and his allies of being “anti-America.”

During his tour of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, the Democratic vice presidential nominee compared Trump’s vision of America to the dystopia of the “Mad Max” films.

He said the GOP campaign wants voters to “believe that our political system is broken, to believe that things are pessimistic.”

“My God. Every time I hear Donald Trump give a speech, it’s like the next script for ‘Mad Max’ or something,” Walz said. “They’re against America.”

“They don’t believe in the exceptionalism of this country. They don’t believe in the people who built this country. They just want to complain about them,” he added.

Trump has returned to the somber tone of his 2016 campaign, when the phrase “American carnage” was symbolic.

Eight years later, his message is again distinctly ominous: he refers to a “bloodbath” if he loses and makes repeated dehumanizing attacks on immigrants and his opponents. Trump has also waffled on about sharks, the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter and windmills.

Walz also lashed out at his vice presidential rival, J.D. Vance, on Wednesday over the Republican’s now-infamous gaffe at his doughnut shop, which left him struggling to strike up a conversation with a store employee.

“Look at me, I have no problem picking out donuts,” Walz joked during a visit to Cherry Hill Orchards in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
