DEDHAM – A potentially impactful one hearing in the Karen Read case is scheduled for Tuesday, as a Massachusetts judge could decide on a new date for the second trial.

Read is accused of striking and killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him in the snow outside a Canton home in 2022.
The case returns to Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham on Tuesday as Judge Beverly Cannone weighs several motions.
Read has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of personal injury and death.

Read had already been tried once, but the jury did not reach a unanimous verdict and a was declared null and void.
Currently, Read’s second trial is scheduled for January 27.
The Public Prosecution Service and the defense submitted a joint request to postpone the trial until April 1.
At an earlier hearing, lawyers said they don’t expect any further delays after that.
Motions in the trial against Karen Read
Hank Brennan, a former attorney for Whitey Bulger who was recently added as a special prosecutor in the case, is also expected to argue for new evidence in the upcoming trial.
Brennan requested Read’s parents’ phone records, as well as notes and videos from news sources interviewed her.
Read’s lawyers have filed a claim movement In early November, he requested Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s personal emails and phone records. Defense attorneys claim Morrissey used his personal email to contact Stoughton District Court judges and staff about the case witness intimidation case against Aidan Kearney. Kearney is a blogger known as “Turtle boy” handling Read’s case.
No decision was made on that request at the last hearing in the case.
Who is Karen Read?
Read is a financial analyst who lived in Mansfield and was in a relationship with O’Keefe at the time of his death.
She is accused of hitting him with her SUV during an argument after a night of heavy drinking.
Reading is asking for two of the charges, first-degree murder and leaving the scene, which were dismissed on the grounds of double jeopardy. The Supreme Court of Massachusetts arguments heard discussed the issue in recent weeks, but no ruling has yet been made.
