Mangione was denied bail and disputed extradition Tuesday to New York. On the way to the courthouse in Pennsylvania, he shouted at reporters that what was happening to him was “an insult to the intelligence of the American people.”
Mangione is expected to plead not guilty to Pennsylvania costs of forgery, firearms prohibited from being carried without a permit, tampering with data or identification, possession of instruments of crime and false identification to law enforcement. His attorney, Thomas Dickey, said he would advise Mangione to file the same plea with the New York attack of second-degree murder.
Thompson, 50, was shot outside the Hilton Midtown in New York on December 4. In April 2021, he was appointed CEO of UnitedHealthcare, the insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group.
