OAKLAND — BART passengers traveling between three stations in Oakland this weekend will have to transfer to buses due to major track construction.

BART crews will begin replacing several connections between the Rockridge, MacArthur and 19th Street stations on Saturday, the agency announced on its website.

Interlockings – critical components of the BART system – are segments of track that allow trains to safely change tracks.

The team will also replace traction power cables, install train control equipment and digital signs at subway stations as far away as Berkeley and 12th Street/Oakland City Center, the agency said.

Free buses transport passengers between these three stations and passengers should expect delays of up to 40 minutes in affected areas during closure weekends.

CLOSING WEEKENDS

June 22-23, July 20-21, August 17-18, September 21-22, October 19-20 and November 2-3.

In addition to the track closure, there is no Red Line service these weekends.

It is planned that work will continue throughout the central part of the district on selected non-consecutive weekends until 2026.
