Who should be the Oklahoman’s Student of the Week for November 4-7?

The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll for the week of November 4 is now live.

The nominations for the Oklahoman’s Student of the Week contest are in and the polls are now open for voting for the best of the best.

The Oklahoman asked superintendents, principals, teachers and guidance counselors from across the Oklahoma City area to participate in the Student of the Week program by submitting nominations for their student.

Readers now choose the best of the best in our survey. This week’s poll has seven candidates.

The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week poll is at the bottom of the list of nominees. You can vote once per hour until closing time.

Last week’s winner: Aidan O’Hara is The Oklahoman’s Student of the Week.

Voting is possible until Thursday, November 7 at 12 noon.

Nominations for next week’s poll will also be accepted through Thursday at 5 p.m. To nominate a student, school faculty can email StudentOfTheWeek@oklahoman.com.

These are the nominees for this week’s poll:

  • Chloe Todd, Jones High School: Todd, a senior, is a dedicated and resilient senior with a 3.24 GPA and scores highly in her class. She is currently taking challenging AP and college classes and completing the Biomedical Science program at Eastern Oklahoma County Tech Center and is currently enrolled in the Nursing Assistant Program. In addition to her academic excellence, she demonstrates teamwork, discipline and leadership skills as an active member of the varsity cheerleading team. In addition to academics, she has been involved in FFA and is deeply involved with her church, where she volunteers with children’s programs.

  • Ava Wilson, Christian School in Oklahoma: Wilson is an exceptional high school student who consistently demonstrates academic excellence and dedication not only to her schoolwork, but also to her extracurricular activities. Wilson is a crucial team member of the OCS Varsity Volleyball team, but an injury early in the season prevented her from playing. She is also part of the school yearbook team this year and has been actively working to put together a quality piece for the school. “Ava has shown so much perseverance and dedication in the classroom and to her team during this challenging time. She works hard to stay on track and do her very best, while still being a champion supporter of her teammates,” said digital art teacher Nikki Huffman.

  • Yaretzi Krausse, Western Heights High School: Krausse, a junior, is a 3.6 GPA student who consistently ranks in the top 10% of her class. She excels in visual arts and STEM classes and is on track to graduate with honors. and consistently ranks in the top 10% of her class. In many ways, she exemplifies great student character and leadership both at school and in the community. She led the creation of a Stomp team to reinvigorate school spirit and is now developing a leadership and scholarship-focused club for Hispanic students. Her involvement with the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Youth Leadership Academy further illustrates her dedication to promoting positive change in her community. “Her vision and resilience have not only brought pride back to Western Heights, but also created lasting opportunities for her colleagues. I am honored to be a part of her journey and look forward to all she will continue to accomplish,” said Program Manager for OSU-OKC Upbound Briana Flatley.

  • Tinley Winters, Purcell High School: Winters, a senior, is a 4.25 GPS student who scores the highest in her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, StuCo, Spanish Club, and is a four-year Superintendent of Honor Roll and a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society. In addition to excelling in her academics, she is co-captain of the girls basketball program and a three-year starter and track state qualifier in discus. “Tinley is an incredibly versatile student who combines natural talents with an unusual work ethic. She does not seek the spotlight, but excels in everything she attempts. I have no doubt that Tinley will achieve significant personal and professional success in life She has been a true asset to Purcell High School,” said Principal Jason Sanders.

  • Jordyn Johnson, John Marshall Enterprise High School: Johnson, a junior, is a dedicated student who consistently demonstrates excellence both inside and outside the classroom. She is an honor student who works hard to maintain her A record, along with near-perfect attendance. She maintains her academic standing while demonstrating her team spirit on the cheerleading and visionary dance team. In addition to her regular classes, she is currently studying at MetroTech, where she is perfecting her entrepreneurial dreams as a nail technician. “A vibrant, outgoing role model, Jordyn shows us that with hard work, focus and a bit of spirit, you can do anything,” said director Rachell (Rosh) Conner.

  • Maddilyn Abbott, Little Ax High School: Abbott, a freshman, is an honor student who has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school thus far. She is involved with the Gifted and Talented program, as well as the National Honor Society. Maddie stands out as a published writer. Her book “The Creatures of the World” is a collection of poems that won a national competition from Book Leaf Publishing.

  • Teagan Painter, Newcastle Secondary School: Painter, a senior, is a determined and energetic honor student who is eager to take on any leadership role or task given to her. She is an honor student who likes to be challenged. In addition to academic excellence, she is a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and captain of the girls soccer team. As a junior, she won first place for an essay on Foreign Affairs Veterans. “Watching Teagan’s growth over the past four years, I have seen her succeed and succeed in some of the most challenging things our high school has to offer. She has grown into a young woman who will be a leader in her community and vocation.” said chemistry teacher Kevin Jones.
