Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead in a fire near the San Gabriel River in Long Beach, police said.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers responded to a call about a brush fire near 2nd Street and the river around 4:24 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim’s body after extinguishing the flames.
Detectives are still working to identify a possible suspect, according to a statement police released Sunday, which noted that the motive and circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were still under investigation.
Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
In the statement, police said homicide detectives have launched an investigation “due to the nature of the incident.” However, no other details about the case have been released by authorities.
