With funding coming from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the additional officers will be on patrol from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“We want everyone to be as safe as possible, especially when they are out and about,” Yuba City Police Chief Brian Baker said in a statement.
Drivers caught driving under the influence and charged with a first DUI could face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a revoked driver’s license, officials said.
“The Yuba City Police Department reminds the public that drunk driving is not solely caused by alcohol,” police said. “Some prescription or over-the-counter medications can interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving. Although medical and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. If you plan to drink or if If you are taking medications that could affect your ability to drive, plan to stay home.”
