The Michigan State Police Lansing Post is closed after a man was killed in a parking lot

WINDSOR TWP. – The Lansing Michigan State Police post was closed indefinitely Tuesday morning after a man was found dead in the parking lot off Canal Road, near Billwood Highway.

A 63-year-old Lansing man was found in the parking lot around 6:30 a.m., said Lt. Rene Gonzalez, MSP 1st District spokesperson. The man died of an apparent suicide, he added.

No one else was in the parking lot when the man died, Gonzalez said.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

In a social media post, MSP said the man “contacted MSP Operations by telephone and advised that he was in the parking lot of Lansing Post, 7119 N Canal Rd, and intended to harm himself. Troopers responded to the parking lot and found the subject deceased next to his vehicle.”

The post is expected to reopen within hours, MSP said Tuesday morning.
