Duke PG Jeremy Roach declares for NBA Draft and enters transfer portal

Jeremy Roach calls it a career at Duke. We just don’t know which way he’s going.

The senior guard announced Tuesday that he will both declare for the 2024 NBA Draft and enter the transfer portal, thanking the Blue Devils and their fans for “a special four years.” Roach can still study for another year through his COVID year.

Roach is seeing a lot of interest in the portal after posting career highs across the board, including a 42.9% shooting mark from 3-point range. He captained a Duke team that struggled at times last season but put together enough to reach the Elite Eight in March Madness (with a few lucky escapes).

Roach’s departure could leave Duke without its four top scorers from last season. Sophomore big man Kyle Filipowski and guard Jared McCain have both declared for the draft, while forward Mark Mitchell has entered the transfer portal. However, guards Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster remain.

As in most seasons, Duke already has its reinforcements ready. The Blue Devils will welcome the nation’s top recruiting class, led by Rival’s top prospect Cooper Flagg.

Flagg is flanked by three other five stars: No. 9 recruit Kon Kneuppel, No. 13 recruit Isaiah Evans and Khaman Maluach, who is not listed in the Rivals 150 but is considered an elite recruit. Four stars Patrick Ngongba II and Darren Harris complete the six-member group. Duke won’t shy away from using either of these players if he’s deemed ready.
