Georgia fires WR Rara Thomas after arrest on multiple charges

Rara Thomas is no longer a member of the Georgia football team.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters Thursday that he met with Thomas and informed the receiver that he would be removed from the team.

Thomas was suspended from the team after being arrested on multiple charges, including a misdemeanor count of domestic violence for cruelty to children. He posted bail Tuesday after being arrested Friday. No details have been made public about the charges against Thomas.

“I am pleased that bail was set and Mr. Thomas was released while we thoroughly investigate the matter,” Kim Stephens said in a statement to The Athletic. “We expect this matter to be resolved quickly and fairly once all the facts are known.”

Last week’s arrest marked the second time Thomas has been arrested on domestic violence charges since he arrived at Georgia after the 2022 season. After being arrested in January 2023 on charges of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of domestic violence, the charges were dropped two months later after he completed a diversion program.

Thomas was projected to be a key part of Georgia’s offense in 2024. He had 23 catches for 383 yards and a TD in 11 games in 2023 in his first season with the Bulldogs. In two seasons at Mississippi State, Thomas had 62 catches for 878 yards and 12 scores.
