Madison man charged with trafficking fentanyl

May 28 – A Madison man was arrested and charged with trafficking in fentanyl and second-degree possession of marijuana during a traffic stop on Saturday evening, according to Priceville police.

Jonathan Wade Emerson, 32, was booked into the Morgan County Jail early Sunday and released Monday on $250,000 bond, jail records show.

Emerson was a passenger in a vehicle stopped Saturday around 11 p.m. for minor traffic violations near the Priceville/Decatur exit on Interstate 65, according to a police statement. Police said they smelled marijuana at Emerson.

Officers “found a quantity of marijuana and a trafficked quantity of white, round, chalk-like pills on Emerson’s person,” the affidavit said. “(Officers) field-tested the pills and they returned a presumptive positive result for fentanyl.”

The driver of the vehicle had multiple warrants out of Morgan County and was transported to jail before posting bail, according to Priceville police.
