A lucky New Jersey lottery player won $1 million on Mega Millions on Friday.
According to the Mega Millions website, three tickets in Jersey, California and Illinois matched the five white balls and won second-tier prizes.
The NJ and Illinois tickets are each worth $1 million, while the California ticket (sold in La Palma) is worth $415,055, as the state bases its non-jackpot prizes on actual sales in California.
It was not immediately known where in New Jersey the winning ticket was sold.
Mega Millions reaches $331 million
No one won it all on Friday, so the Mega Millions jackpot stands at $331 million with a cash option of $156.2 million for Tuesday’s drawing.
The last time the jackpot was won was on June 4, when a lottery player in Illinois won $552 million. That’s the ninth-largest Mega Millions ever.

The cost is $2 per ticket, but for $1 you can add the Megaplier, which increases the amount of your potential prize up to five times the original prize (excluding the jackpot).

The annuity option is paid out over time. There is an immediate payment and then 29 annual payments, increasing by 5% each year. The cash option is significantly lower than the advertised jackpot, but is paid out all at once. You don’t have to wait decades for all the money.
