At a meeting of the newly appointed directors and officers of the Michigan Potato Growers’ Association, scheduled for Petoskey in early May, it is believed the new directors will take action toward smoothing over the association feud.
Problems arose last year when some members sold their crops through the Dougherty Seed Growers Ind. from Pennsylvania, rather than through the Michigan Potato Growers’ Exchange. The Michigan Agricultural College has recommended a new set of bylaws, constitutional changes and a new deal to give everyone a fair deal and give members more voice in selling their product.
The association’s name may be changed to the Michigan Certified Seed Potato Association when the directors meet here and the council’s recommendations are favorably acted upon. It is also recommended to increase the number of directors from five to eleven, in order to achieve greater area representation on the board.
RC Bennett, Alba banker, is the association’s new president. E. D. Brewer, of Millersburg, is vice-president, and H. C. Moore, of East Lansing, is secretary and treasurer.
April 26, 1974: Five-foot boa possibly on the loose in H. Springs
HARBOR SPRINGS – A four-foot-long boa constrictor may be on the loose somewhere in Harbor Springs, city police say.
The snake, which has been missing for a week, got lost between Lake and Pine streets. on Hoyt Rd. In Harbor Springs. The loss was reported to police yesterday by the snake’s owner, Jim Strainer.
Strainer told police he was walking his pet when the snake got away from him. He told police the snake was not dangerous.
City police are asking anyone who sees the snake to contact police immediately.
