On Friday evening, a Richmond Hill man shot his wife three times before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a news release from Bryan County Sheriff Mark D. Crowe on Facebook.
On June 7 around 9:15 p.m., Bryan County 911 received a call regarding a domestic dispute in progress at an address on Sunbury Drive in Richmond Hill, the news release said.
Law enforcement responded by establishing a perimeter, evacuating homes adjacent to the residential site and attempting to negotiate with the man, who “told the negotiator that he was heavily armed and that if law enforcement officers approached the home, he would shoot them.” ”
The perpetrator allowed two doctors from the Bryan County Emergency Medical Service into the home and removed the victim from the home. The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital.

“When the victim was removed from the home, negotiations with the perpetrator resumed,” the press release said. “The perpetrator continued to refuse to comply with law enforcement orders to leave the home unarmed and with his hands in the air. After several hours of negotiations, the SWAT command decided to use tear gas in the house. The Georgia State Patrol SWAT team entered the home and found the perpetrator deceased in an upstairs bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Bryan County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
