The Pittsburgh Steelers are headed for a change at quarterback. Veteran Russell Wilson, who signed with the Steelers in March, is finally healthy enough to take reps with the first team, and will reportedly do just that this week. That sets him up to make his Steelers debut this weekend when they take on the New York Jets.

The 35-year-old Wilson battled a calf injury throughout training camp, but appeared to be on the other side as the regular season approached. He was named the starting quarterback over Justin Fields before Week 1, but aggravated that lurking calf injury just days before the Steelers were set to open their season against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Steelers didn’t make a formal announcement about their Week 1 starter before releasing inactives, but when they came out 90 minutes before kickoff, Wilson was on the list. Fields would be the starter going forward and he helped lead the Steelers to a 3-0 start.
Pittsburgh has had only a few hiccups since then and currently sits at 4-2. Despite that strong start, Tomlin said Tuesday he is considering Wilson as the Week 7 starter.
Tomlin: “[Russell Wilson] is being considered this week. We’ll see where that leads us.

The Steelers need an offensive boost, and Wilson can certainly give them that. And Russ wants redemption more than ever after two disastrous years with the Denver Broncos. Now he’s closer than ever to proving he has even more passing ability in that mighty arm.
