The strong winds return on Thursday afternoon with gusts of up to 60 km/h possible. A new storm brings more wind, but there is a greater chance of rain on Saturday.
Wednesday was another warm day across New Mexico, but cloud cover kept temperatures a few degrees cooler than the near-record warmth we had on Tuesday. Tonight the clouds will disappear and milder temperatures are expected during the night. Winds will begin to pick up Thursday morning as our next storm system moves into the state. Wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h will occur on Thursday afternoon. The wind will create areas of blowing dust and a high risk of fire. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday afternoon in northwestern and northern New Mexico. The wind will decrease on Thursday evening as the chance of rain decreases.
On Friday afternoon there will be a moderate to windy westerly wind again, with gusts of up to 80 km/h. This will once again bring high fire danger to parts of the state. A new storm will arrive from the west on Friday evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, along with mountain snow, are possible across western and northern New Mexico on Saturday. A few isolated storms are also possible in the Albuquerque metro on Saturday. Temperatures will be cooler behind a cold front moving across the state. This storm will again bring strong winds, with gusts of up to 90 km/h. The wind will decrease on Friday evening as drier air flows in again.
A warming trend will begin Sunday afternoon as winds will lighten early next week. High temperatures will rise again to well above average by the middle of next week.
