The weather will become drier over the weekend

Isolated storm chances remain in New Mexico Saturday afternoon. Drier air and warmer temperatures arrive Sunday.

Friday was an active day of monsoon storms in New Mexico, with the most widespread storms in western and northern New Mexico. However, there were also a few isolated showers and storms in the Albuquerque Metro and in the Sacramento Mountains. Some of these storms dropped heavy rain, especially in Albuquerque tonight. Most of the storms will continue to taper off tonight. However, a few isolated showers and storms could linger into sunrise Saturday morning.

This weekend, drier weather will begin to move into the state. We will still see an active afternoon of storms on Saturday, but drier air will move into western and northwestern New Mexico, while the northeastern part of the state will have a higher chance of rain. These storms will taper off by Saturday evening, with another crop of afternoon storms on Sunday. Sunday, however, will be considerably drier, with only a few storms in southwestern New Mexico.

Storm chances will remain low and isolated into early next week, but a few afternoon storms will still develop, particularly in western New Mexico and on some of the mountaintops of the central range. Temperatures will also warm up next week, with highs in the 90s and triple digits Tuesday afternoon. A more traditional monsoon pattern will also begin to form by the middle of next week, bringing with it a higher chance of afternoon storms. Widespread highs in the 90s and triple digits are also expected next Wednesday and Thursday.
